Tendon and Nerve Lacerations
Penetrating injuries to the hand and upper extremity often lead to injuries to tendons and/or nerves. The staff at California Hand Center has the experience to treat both recent injuries, as well as long-standing ones.
Even fresh tendon lacerations are often challenging to treat. It is important to remember that maximizing the result from this type of injury involves not only the surgery, itself, but the tendon healing process and therapy which follows afterwards. Tendon lacerations that are treated more than a couple weeks after the original date of injury may require more than a single surgery to correct.
Nerve lacerations, particularly in the hand and fingers, are also commonly treated at California Hand Center. Nerves can be repaired under a microscope. But it is important to realize that the timeframe for nerve healing runs over many months. |
